South Korean government picks up Coventry Telegraph spelling error

The South Korean government has taken a keen interest in local media in Coventry after spotting a mistaken spelling of its national sport.

Keith Perry, editor of the Coventry Telegraph, received an email from a government ministry in the East Asian nation after “taekwondo” was incorrectly spelled “taekwando” in a film review article from last October.

“Even though this is not a huge mistake, we think it is important to provide readers with correct information in order to avoid any possible confusion and misunderstanding,” the email from the Korean Culture and Information Service read.

“Your kind attention to this issue and your timely consideration of a correction would be greatly appreciated. We would be more than happy to help you if you need any further information about Korea.”

Keith wrote on Twitter: “I have had an email from the Korean Govt (the friendly one). We spelt Taekwondo incorrectly. Corrected. That is serious monitoring.”

When asked if it was a joke, Keith replied: “It’s one incredible wind up if it isn’t.”
