Ricoh Arena ranked as England’s worst league football stadium by top magazine

The home of the Sky Blues has been named the worst of England’s 92 league football stadiums by a prominent football magazine.

Chris Flanagan, a writer for Four Four Two, said the Ricoh Arena was “a depressing experience” and that the best feature was its “proximity to motorway”.

Flanagan, who said he had most recently visited in the 2016/17 season, described the atmosphere as “often-soulless” and the stadium “virtually empty”.

“The move to a new ground just hasn’t worked out, and it’s hard not to feel for Coventry fans in that situation,” he wrote.

“Home end has been shut and used to house a giant Jimmy Hill banner, a reminder of what the club used to be,” he added.

Other poorly-performing stadiums included Hartlepool’s Victoria Park and Cheltenham’s Whaddon Road.

Ranked best was West Brom’s stadium, The Hawthorns, which he described as “modern and atmospheric”.
