Family tributes to Coventry man killed in A5 crash

51-year-old Steven Atkins from Coventry was killed in a double fatal collision on Sunday around 12.30pm on Towcester’s A5 in Northamptonshire.

Atkins, who was seen as an avid motorcyclist from Coventry, was one of the two people that died in Sunday’s crash during the afternoon. Atkins had a partner and family.

“Steven was a skilled engineer and a lifetime motorcyclist,” a family statement said.

“He will be dearly missed by his partner, all his family and his many friends and colleagues,” the statement concluded.

The accident involved a Skoda where the driver fatally passed at the scene. This was 60-year-old Shirley McClements from Nether Heyford in Northamptonshire.

“An orange motorcycle and silver Skoda were in collision outside Jacks Hill Café at around 12.30pm,” a spokesman from Northamptonshire police said.

“Both the motorcyclist and driver of the car sadly died at the scene. Officers investigating what happened would like to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the collision, or who may have any information regarding it,” they added.

“Anyone with information or who witnessed the collision is asked to call the Drivewatch Hotline on 0800 174615.”
