Earl Street to be closed on Sunday due to bridge removal works

A major road in the city centre is set to close this Sunday as the council link bridge gets demolished.

The bridge, which links Civic Centre 2 and the Council House building, will be torn down on Sunday (April 9th).

Earl Street will be closed to traffic for the day while the removal takes place.

The council is moving to Friargate, the new office development near the train station.

The Council House, however, will remain in use.

“The Council House is, and will remain, the heart of our democratic decision making,” said Martin Yardley, the council’s Deputy Chief Executive, in a statement.

“It is an important piece of our heritage and it will be great for everyone to see it as it originally was,” he added.
