Coventry patient with Crohn’s disease raises awareness through photo shoot

28-year-old Amy Clare took part in a photo shoot arranged by Purple Wings, a charity that helps and bolsters the confidence of those with Inflammatory Bowel Disease.

Miss Clare suffered with the symptoms of Crohn’s disease – inflammation of the intestines, particularly the colon – for 10 years until she had an ostomy in June 2015.

The ostomy surgically created an opening in her bowel to remove body wastes, and Miss Clare used the photo shoot to show off her stoma bag in order to fight stigma and raise awareness.

“This was used to empower women, boost your confidence, make you realise that you are still sexy, your normal self even though you have an ostomy.”

Miss Clare founded the Midlands Ostomy & IBD Support Group and runs the blog @stellastoma to share the experience of living with Crohn’s disease.
