79-year-old Dave could be oldest Coventry Half Marathon participant ever

This year’s Coventry Half Marathon could see its oldest participant ever after a 79-year-old with thirty years of running experience behind him signed up to run.

Wyken resident Dave Thomas, who will turn 80 in a year, is set to take part in the race – which starts and ends by the Transport Museum – on 19th March.

Dave, who is a great-grandfather, aims to raise money for Ash Green-based baby hospice charity Zoe’s Place.

He has a previous association with the charity, having raised money for them when running a past race.

“I would have run faster if I hadn’t stopped to collect my pension,” the BBC reports he joked when he last ran the race.
